the wonderful Rebecca and I a few months ago decided to make our busy lives even busier by promoting our own night, Make do and Mend…
Make do and Mend is going to be a showcase for labels & groups doing something exciting and independent in the UK, first up we thought we’d invite our good friends Sunday Best down to promote some of their fantastic acts. The first of many will take-place at the South Street Arts Centre in Reading(map) on Feb 2nd.
KID CARPET
odd odd odd, did i mention odd? Kid Carpet’s beats are somehow fat yet twee, he manages to write addictive pop whilst remaining credible. Check out the awesome “the kid’s back” on his myspace.
NIC DAWSON KELLY
Nic’s songwriting is wonderful, carrying all thats good from the likes of davendra banhart and infusing it with an english lilt and sense of humour, “the musician” could be the catchiest tune i’ve heard in the past year, his songwriting is so simple yet thoroughly involving. download “london’s burning” (dont right click) for my dawson kelly’s myspace.
YILA
Finally to start the first evening Yila, co-producer on the dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip album and occasional collaborator with Scroob and his Astronaut single, he drops dark electronic beats that will get many a chin stroking geeks arse moving….
Also throughout the night dan le sac(me!) will be djing badly and Scroobius Pip will be taking up compare duties.
Tickets will be a whooping 6quid…ticket link will be up soon.
